Losing Adriane ~ (talking about weight loss)

DSCN4049

If you’ve been around my blog for a while, you know that I once had a weight loss blog.  I deleted the blog because I didn’t have time to keep it up.  (And now I have two blogs again…I can be a bit wishy washy.  :)  Even though the blog is gone, I have still held on to my goal of losing at least 40 pounds by my 40th birthday which will occur in August 2011.

I had lost a total of 10 pounds and have maintained that loss with no work on my part at all.  However, I have decided to get back on the wagon and lose this excess weight.  I now have a mini goal of 20 pounds by Thanksgiving.  Honestly, that may be more of a big goal but I’m going to give it an old college try anyway.

I am trying to transition my family to real foods diet.  But when I read about the “real food” or “whole food” diet, I sometimes wonder how it would apply to a weight loss.  Those diets focus on real food, not manufactured foods.  And some of those foods are high fat.  That scares me a bit.

I did some internet searches and came up with the following links on real foods and weight loss:

The Nourishing Gourmet: Part 1

The Nourishing Gourmet:  Part 2

Real Foods on a budget at Food Renegade

For more posts on real foods, visit Keeper of the Home or any of the other links under my Healthy Homes category on the side bar.

This week, I will be working on a list of changes & goals that we need to implement in our home as we move toward real foods.  I will share that next week (probably on Monday) and hopefully will also be able to tell you that I lost a little weight.

But first, I must say goodbye to an old friend…

again…

sigh!

  1. Weight loss, it is so hard. But for me I know it is a mind thing. Once I decide I want this bad enough to it I know I can. My goal is 25lbs. by Christmas.

Praying for you along this difficult journey!

  2. You are completely right about that, Lecia. My mom has told me over and over again that it is a mind thing. You have to make up your mind to do it. Right now for me, I feel like my mind is being made up for me. I didn't discuss this above but I have been having blood sugar problems. And after having many things that are happening that point to diabetes AND having been tested most of my life for diabetes...I figured that I'd better start now. Not just for me but for my children.

And thank you for the prayers. it is so hard to resist Coke for me. I can cut down on food portions easily but Coke has quite a strong hold on me!

I will pray for you too, Lecia.

  3. Hi Adriane!
I'm on a weight loss journey too (although mine is losing my baby weight). My goal is 30 lbs because not only would I like to lose the "baby weight", I want to get to my skinny jean size. I, too, have adapted the real foods diet and I can't even begin to tell you how good it has made me feel. I decided that not only would I be losing weight, I would be making a permanent lifestyle change (weight loss would just be an added benefit). And I think that real foods is a part of that healthy living lifestyle.

My advice to you is this: don't be afraid of the high fat foods. This is where portion control comes into effect. Stock up on healthy veggie and fruits FIRST and then you may be surprised at how little you eat of the fatty stuff. The whole point of having real butter, real cream, real yogurt is to give your body the simple task of metabolishing simple foods, not chemicals. I eat real ice cream - with just cream, sugar, milk, vanilla, eggs, etc(Breyer's is my choice brand). But I only have 1 scoop. I do eat real butter when needed. But I often eliminate it when I don't REALLY need it (like on sliced bread).

Good luck and I usually post my weight loss numbers, goals, and acheivements on my blog on Mondays. Cheers!@

  4. Oh no not giving up soda! LOL I say this because it's my big downfall too! If I could just stay away from it, my weight loss would be better! It's hard when we're Mommies to take care of ourselves. But it's important too. I have some health issues too causing me to change my habits. I wish you all the best! Maybe we can be a support group for each other!
    Blessings,
    Jill

  7. ** Sorry for deleting the previous post... wrote something wrong.. woops**

I am so jumping on this bandwagon... :) I am, finally, accepting that I have a medical condition that can usually be controlled by what is eatten and not by meds... only thing is I have to limit, majorly, my favorite foods... breads and milk...

I will definately be checking out this "real food diet" and see if I can adapt it to what I need...

Good luck with the new lifestyle :)

  8. I did a double take when I read this post! I also had the goal of losing 40 lbs. by my 40th birthday (mine's in November of this year) and I'm sad to say I've somewhat given up. I haven't really lost anything yet...due to lack of motivation? discipline?
I will have to check out these links, because I know that a lifestyle change is the key. Change is hard, but in this case so worth it.
