A peek at our week ~

A few weeks back, my oldest son told me that he hadn’t been seeing me take many pictures any more.  I love taking pictures almost as much as I love gardening.  But I had to agree with him.  I had been a little out of touch with camera.

So this week, I have tried to snap at least one picture a day.  I love to look back through my older blog posts and see our simple everyday goings-on.  So I thought that I’d share a little peek at our week here on the blog.  {smile}

We have rejoined the raw milk co-op and we picked up some farm fresh eggs to go with our milk.  {YUM}

We are trying to hatch Triops eggs.  Hopefully they will hatch because I forgot to feed them before David and I left for a weekend retreat.  Opps!  (I typed this while away from home.)

A trip to the craft store resulted in my older boys coming home with some miniatures to put together.  We are studying American History this year so they are very interested in things concerning the wars.  (Especially my oldest son)  In the evenings after the little ones go to sleep, David and the boys share some time putting together these little miniatures and talking.

We received some rain this week and that resulted in the puddle jumpers being put on and mud puddle hopping on the giraffe.  This picture was taken about 30 or so minutes before Baby Boy went to ER for a possible broken foot.  The foot was NOT broken nor was it a result of mud puddle hopping!  {wink}

The rain also gave us an excuse to make mud pies.  Sunshine Girl said that they were “gusting” (disgusting).  I told her that we don’t actually eat them.  She was ok with making mud pies after that.

After every trip to the library, we come home with many art books.  My children seem to have their Daddy’s artistic abilities.  I am never at a loss for art to decorate my home.  {wink}

Every spring, these white flowers bloom in our back yard.   We don’t cut our grass until these flowers are finished because they are visited by many bees.  Of course, I have learned (the hard way) not to walk through the flowers while wearing flip-flops!

On Friday morning, we made some doughnuts.  Baby Boy could not wait for me to finish taking the picture!

 I hope you are having a great weekend!

Snow day pictures ~

February 4, 2011 072

We awoke to another snow day today.  I know a snow day is no big deal to many but to us here in the deep south, it’s a real big deal.  This is our second actual you-can-play-in-it snow day this year and we had one last year.  I have not seen that ever in all of my 30ish years of living here.

February 4, 2011 011

The kids wanted to go out as soon as possible but I intended to eat a little breakfast first.  However, it is a bit hard to eat with 10 little eyes staring at you in anticipation of going to play in the snow.  So I just grabbed a cup of coffee and headed out the door.  Breakfast can wait…this is a snow day!

Of course, I had to get everyone to let me take a snow day portrait.

The snow sure does make a good portrait taking backdrop!

I know that I’m biased but I think those are some good-looking kids!

Whenever I got too cold, I had to run in for some more coffee.  That warmed me right up!

Bryce and I worked on a snowman.  I do believe that I may be getting a little too old to make snowmen anymore.  I am so tired and sore tonight.  But I keep reminding myself that I probably burned off some calories today!

February 4, 2011 115

By the time we finally got to the mouth and eyes, we were too cold and tired to add more buttons.  We decided that three was a good number for cold hands.

I  had to take some snow shots too.  It may be another 5 or so years before we see snow again.  We need some proof that it does snow in the deep south!

And just in case any one ever doubts that it does actually snow here, we kept a bottle of snow for our freezer.  Everyone does that, right!?  {wink}

Our family enjoyed our snow day very much.  Well, everyone but Max.  He wasn’t too happy with us today!  He sat under the truck out of the snow until someone opened the door so he could run back into the house.  Silly cat!

I hope you have a blessed weekend!

How many shots does it take to get a picture of five children?

I am always trying to get a shot of my five children…preferably all looking at the camera and no one crying.  So while we were exploring a mountain stream this past weekend, I called for everyone to come take a picture.  Here are the results:

And to answer the question in the title…it took 13 shots (2 are not pictured).  But they were all so cute and told the story of trying to get a picture around here that I just had to share!

Our trip to the mountains ~

DSCN5276

We live in a state that has very few hills.  If my memory serves me correctly, the only mountain that we have is around 200ish feet.  So when we went north this past weekend, David and I were excited that our children would get to see some mountains.

 David and I made this same trip a few years ago for an anniversary trip and we found this park that had a mountain to hike and a beautiful stream that you had to cross to get to this mountain.  We hiked this same mountain with Sunshine Girl in a carrier some four years ago.

After we hiked up the mountain a while, we came back to the stream and everyone just played and played in the cool water.  I really think that we all had just as much fun at this park as we did at the theme park.  Actually, I know that we did because they keep telling me how great of a day it was.

I splashed around in the stream a bit but mainly followed everyone around with a camera & helped people climb around on slippery rocks.  And now, I’m going to subject you to tons of pictures!  :-)
