Snow is rare here in the deep south. Last year, we had a snow and it was the first snow that our family had seen in nine years! For us to get snow two years in a row is pretty much a miracle in my book!
We awoke Sunday morning to sleet and cold rain. Of course for us in the deep south, this meant that businesses started to close. We aren’t equipped down here for driving in cold weather conditions. {smile}
That afternoon as we snuggled down with the littles for a cold, rainy day nap, one of the older boys came to tell us that it was snowing. Imagine our surprise when we looked out the window! We only got a dusting but it was enough to thrill these children of mine for whom snow is an enchanting rarity.
Plenty of snowballs were made and thrown. Little hands were cold because mittens & gloves are always missing when you need them. (And always there when you don’t!) The children were laughing and having a blast!
There’s even a large snowball in our freezer as evidence that we had snow in January 2011!
We finished off our snow-filled day with some edible snowflakes.
Are you enjoying snow in your neck of the woods?
very much!
ReplyDelete2009 was the first time we've had ALOT of snow in years. We had 17 inches and It was a memory I will never forget:)
Happy for you and the snow!!!
It looks like someone sprinkled powdered sugar all over your yard!! And I LOVE those edible snowflakes! How did you make them??
ReplyDeleteKristina ~ I didn't notice that but it does look like powdered sugar. The edible snowflakes are just a flour tortilla folded into fourths, cut like a snowflake, fried in a little oil (for just a short while or they burn), and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I hope to put a few more pictures of all of that and some other snow stuff on the homeschool blog this week...hopefully! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun treat for you and your family! We get snow here every year but like Amanda said last year was the first time we had THAT much snow at one time in several years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving that comment on my blog. You brought up a very good point about using our talents. Actually what you said just helped resolve an issue I have been dealing with in my own church.
I was looking through some of the blogs on here. I saw yours and it reminded me of winter back home. I remember loving that little bit of snow, but now I live up North. My kids were upset that there were only a couple big snow storms! Nice blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the comments. They sure do make my day! {smile}
