My gardening basket ~

April 12, 2011 027

Gardening season is in full swing here in the deep south!  For me, working in the garden comes in little bits and pieces of time throughout the week.  Most of my garden time comes while the kids are taking breaks between lessons, during the baby’s nap, or in the late evening when David is home.  So I try to keep a basket filled with some necessary items for those times when I see an opportunity to head out to the garden.

Want to take a little peek at my gardening basket?  {smile}

These are the things I keep in my handy little gardening basket:

  • seeds that need to be planted
  • a tape measure
  • row labels (sometimes popsicle sticks)
  • a marker for marking those row labels (and usually a pencil too)
  • garden twine
  • scissors

On the way out the door I will also grab my:

  • hat for sun protection
  • my gardening boots
  • The Farmer’s Almanac (has a handy companion planting guide)
  • my journal with my gardening plans in it

and

April 12, 2011 036a calendar that is designated for garden use only.  I write down the day that I planted and then figure out the possible harvest date.  I circle the harvest date so I can designate it from the planting date.  I have a tendency to forget when I have planted something so I try to write it down as soon as possible. {smile}

 I also have a shelf in the garage that holds some very important gardening tools.  (sorry, no picture)

I surely can not forget:

  • gardening gloves
  • sunscreen
  • and pruning shears (for pruning, harvesting veggies, and dead-heading flowers)

It’s a beautiful day here right now, the baby is sleeping, and dinner is in the slow cooker so I think that I’m going to grab my basket and head outside for a while.
