Fourteen years ago on this day…

wedding5

 ~June 22, 1996~

David and I began our journey as husband and wife on this day fourteen years ago.  Fourteen years…whew!

Our wedding day was a wonderful day.  We were married in a little country church which my Father pastored.  It was incredibly hot outside but we didn’t care.  Our dreams were coming true that day.

wedding1  Before David and I began dating, I had just reached the point in my single life where I believed that I would be single for the rest of my life.   Many of my friends were all ready married and beginning to have children.  I wanted what I saw them having…companionship, someone with whom to share your innermost feelings,  and a deep & true love.  I prayed for a man who would be my friend, my love, and my spiritual leader.

wedding2 David had prayed about me before we were even “set up” on our first date.  He had prayed that the next woman he met & dated would be the one.  Shortly after that prayer, he was met with the idea of a double date with me (we knew of each other…but that’s a whole other story).  He said he knew before we even went out that I would be his wife.  I knew by the third date which was just three days after our first date.  We just knew

weddingcake ~We used gardenias to decorate and to this day, the fragrance of these flowers floods our minds with memories.~

I’m still amazed that it has been fourteen years.  (Where does time go?)  I wish I could say that it has always been like it was on that day back in June of 1996.  However, I can’t say that.  There have been some rough times.  And there have been some sad times.  But there have been some wonderful times and they far outweigh the bad times.

wedding4 ~This picture cracks me up.  David is very quiet & reserved…some say shy.  He does not like to be the center of attention.  Of course, he was the focus right here and he looks soooo uncomfortable.  I always say that he looks like he was saying, “What have I done?!?”~

I fully believe that God brought us together as a result of our prayers.  And I fully believe that God has brought us through these past fourteen years as two people who still love each dearly and still act like that young couple of fourteen years ago.  (My kids think we’re funny and gross when we flirt with each other.  It makes me laugh!)  My prayer is that the next fourteen (and more!) years will be filled with our following God and going where He leads us.  May our home be filled with love, laughter, and life!
