How much food can you grow in a 256 square foot garden?

I set out to find out the answer.

I decided to skip counting the herbs and flowers in the front and side flower beds.  {smile}

As of April 24, 2012, our garden contains:

  • 8 ft row of snow peas
  • 12 cucumber plants
  • 21 tomato plants
  • 7 strawberry plants (starting over after last summer’s drought)

April 17, 2012 011

  • 2 yellow squash
  • 2 zucchini squash
  • 16 pepper plants
  • 2 – 4X4 boxes of snap beans plus 1/2 of a 4X8 box of snap beans

April 17, 2012 017

  • 6 raspberry plants
  • 3 blackberry plants (plus more that are sprouting up from last year that need to be relocated)
  • 2 grape vines
  • 2 4ft rows of okra

April 15, 2012 117

  • 2 X 3 section planted with onions
  • 6 cantaloupe vines
  • 6 watermelon vines
  • lettuce and swiss chard
  • many herbs and flowers sprinkled here and there

That’s a lot of food in a little space!
